 Axial Boom - Sensor Demonstration

Robert Duck, mechanical engineer, demonstrates how a spring-like piece of sheet metal that is coils up expands and locks into a long, thin tube, known as a boom. This boom will be placed on the satellite near its axes of rotation and will hold an instrument at the end of the boom. This instrument will sense electric fields and is called the sensor. This type of satellite boom is called the electric field instrument axial boom.
