THEMIS Magnetometer Installation at Carson City
David and Terry by the fence as David work on the GPS receiver
Next, David (left) attached the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) receiver to a pipe. The GPS is used for timing so that all the magnetometer stations can be synchronized in order to know when magnetic events occurred at each location within milliseconds. The GPS also gives a very accurate position in latitude, longitude, and altitude. Terry can be seen on the right with his feathery friend who gave moral support during all the digging. The rest of Western Nevada Community College (WNCC) is in the distance.
